Habit

  • 5 to 8 in. tall

  • Full sun
  • Peat based growing medium with a high water table, 4 to 8 in. below the surface
  • Only water with rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water
  • Trim dead parts of leaves off to keep plants looking attractive

  • Bog gardens
  • Large tubs with the drainage holes covered and several ¼ to ½ in. holes drilled 4 in. down from the top of the tub to mimic their pitcher plant bog habitat
  • Pots placed in a saucer of water low in minerals (rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water)

    The flowers are pollinated by:

  • Bumble bees
  • In our trials pitcher plants have proven to be very resistant to deer browsing. However, if deer pressure is high or food is scarce, damage may occur.

  • The parents of this hybrid grow in bogs and savannas in the southeastern United States
  • Source and origin

  • Cross between Sarracenia leucophylla and Sarracenia psittacina
  • Hybrid created by Bob Hanrahan in 1985 and registered in 2002
  • Propagation

    To maintain its unique qualities, plants must only be propagated by division. Late winter or early spring, before growth starts, is usually the easiest time for both plant and gardener.
